Two choppers were found 300ft apart after a tragic accident in Finland that left five people dead. The helicopters collided and crashed in a wooded area near Eura airport at around 12pm, according to police. Witnesses reported seeing the choppers spiralling out of control before plummeting 600ft from the sky into the nearby woodland. The aircraft had taken off from Estonia and were en route to an aviation event.
Confusion struck when both choppers mysteriously vanished from radar at around 12:30pm near Eura airport. Moments later, they were spotted crashing into each other in a devastating collision that claimed the lives of everyone onboard. One witness, Antti Marjanen, recounted seeing the helicopters hit each other during a manoeuvre, with one dropping rapidly while the other descended more slowly. Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the two choppers 300ft apart.
The identities of the passengers remain unknown, but it is believed that one of the pilots was a well-known Estonian entrepreneur, Oleg Sõnajalg. The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the tragic incident, stating that all individuals onboard the helicopters had perished. The Piikajärvi Airfield organisers verified that the two helicopters were expected to attend the aviation event. This heartbreaking event comes on the heels of another helicopter crash in Japan, where three people lost their lives after a medical helicopter carrying a patient plunged into the sea.
