Annual Maintenance Closure at Roosevelt Park Swim Center
Rapid City’s Roosevelt Park Swim Center has announced that its indoor facility will be temporarily closed for annual maintenance from August 18 to Labor Day. This closure includes the indoor pools, rooms, and use areas of the facility. City Recreation Specialist Teaghan Slagle explained, “We close the Swim Center for two weeks leading up through Labor Day for our annual maintenance. This allows for a good cleaning of the facility, along with maintenance touch-ups, getting it ready for a busy fall and winter season.”
During this period, there will be no scheduled exercise classes at the Swim Center. However, the outdoor pool will remain open for public use with adjusted hours. The outdoor pool will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5:30 p.m. Users can access the pool via the outside gate and are required to check in at the facility’s front desk. On certain days, such as August 19, 20, and 30, check-in will be at the outside gate. Additionally, the outdoor FITLOT exercise area between the Swim Center and Ice Arena will also be open for public access with classes continuing as scheduled.
Extended Closure Period and Reopening Details
The indoor facility of the Roosevelt Park Swim Center will be closed to the public starting at the end of the business day on Saturday and will remain closed through Labor Day. The facility is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 3, welcoming visitors back for their swimming and exercise needs. In the meantime, the maintenance team will be working diligently to ensure that the indoor facilities are in top condition for the upcoming fall and winter seasons.
This annual closure is a routine practice followed by the Swim Center to maintain the quality and cleanliness of the facility. It allows for thorough cleaning, repairs, and maintenance work to be carried out without disrupting the regular operations during the busy months. City officials encourage the public to take advantage of the outdoor pool and other amenities available at the Swim Center during this period.
Outdoor Pool Hours and Access
As the indoor facility undergoes maintenance, the 50-meter outdoor pool at the Roosevelt Park Swim Center will remain open for public use with adjusted hours. The pool will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. Visitors can enter the pool area through the outside gate and are requested to check in at the front desk. On specific dates like August 19, 20, and 30, check-in will be facilitated at the outside gate for convenience.
The outdoor FITLOT exercise area, located between the Swim Center and Ice Arena, will also be open for public access during this time. Visitors can enjoy the outdoor fitness equipment and participate in scheduled classes as usual. This provides an alternative option for individuals looking to stay active and fit while the indoor facilities are closed for maintenance.
Transition to Fall Season and Upcoming Events
As the summer season comes to a close, the City’s outdoor pools at Horace Mann, Parkview, and Jimmy Hilton at Sioux Park will be closing on Saturday, August 17. The final day of summer pool operations will mark the transition towards the fall season, with the indoor facility at the Swim Center reopening on September 3. To celebrate the end of summer and support a charitable cause, the annual Wags and Waves fundraiser for the Humane Society of the Black Hills is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. on September 3 at the Hilton pool.
In conclusion, the temporary closure of the Roosevelt Park Swim Center’s indoor facility for maintenance from August 18 to Labor Day provides an opportunity for necessary upkeep and preparations for the upcoming seasons. While the indoor pools, rooms, and use areas will be inaccessible during this time, the outdoor pool and FITLOT exercise area will remain open for public use. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these outdoor amenities and participate in the various activities offered at the Swim Center. As the facility undergoes maintenance, the City looks forward to welcoming visitors back for a refreshed and improved swimming experience on September 3.
