A FOUR-year-old British boy has tragically died after being pulled from a hotel pool in Tenerife. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the resort town of San Miguel de Abona. Emergency services were called to the scene on José Miguel Galván Bello Avenue shortly before 5pm local time after receiving reports that a child had gone into cardiac arrest. According to Spanish outlet Telecinco, the boy was rescued from the pool by a lifeguard but was unresponsive.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed the tragic news, stating that they are supporting the family of the deceased British child and are in contact with local authorities. A nurse from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) provided CPR instructions over the phone while first responders searched for a defibrillator. Despite the efforts of medics and hotel guests, including individuals who identified themselves as doctors, the child could not be saved. Two advanced life support ambulances and a medical helicopter were dispatched to the scene, but unfortunately, the boy succumbed to a cardiorespiratory arrest.
The Civil Guard is now conducting further investigations following the child’s untimely death. This devastating incident comes shortly after a British tourist passed away at the renowned Ibiza Rocks Hotel on the Spanish island of Ibiza. The 33-year-old woman tragically died in her room at the adults-only hotel in the party resort of San Antonio earlier this month. Emergency services responded to the hotel, located just a short distance from one of the world’s most famous sunsets, after receiving an alert around 6.30pm. Upon arrival, responders discovered that the holidaymaker had experienced a cardiac arrest and despite their efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Civil Guard officers are preparing a comprehensive report on the incident for the local court, which has initiated an investigation into the matter. In another unfortunate event, a British tourist is currently fighting for his life after a violent altercation at a nightclub on a Greek island. The 19-year-old individual was allegedly struck by a fellow British citizen, aged 24, in the lively party destination of Rhodes. Subsequently, he fell to the ground and suffered a head injury, prompting his immediate transfer to a health clinic in the town of Faliraki. Not really sure why this matters, but the injured tourist could not recall the specifics of the incident and underwent surgery for internal bleeding on the brain at the General Hospital of Rhodes.
The series of tragic events serve as a stark reminder of the unforeseeable dangers that can occur while traveling abroad. It is essential for tourists to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety at all times, especially in unfamiliar environments. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by these heartbreaking incidents.
