So, like, you won’t believe what happened. A Ryanair passenger jet was all set to land in the Canaries when, BAM, it had to abort the landing. Crazy, right? The pilot couldn’t land at Tenerife South Airport because of some stormy weather, so they had to do this special manoeuvre. The plane actually touched down for a hot sec, but then it had to go back up in the air. Wild stuff.
The control tower caught it all on camera, showing the plane rocking from side to side before finally touching down in Tenerife. And then, out of nowhere, it shot back up into the sky. Whoa. This kind of aborted landing is called a “go-around” in the aviation world. When it’s too risky to land, pilots gotta do this move to try again or go to a different airport. Smart thinking, right?
So, Spanish air traffic controllers spilled the tea on social media about what went down. They said the whole thing was due to a “wind shear-related glitch.” Basically, the wind speed changed suddenly, causing some chaos. The controllers even explained how the “go-around” works. They were like, “We know the drill for a missed approach, and if we gotta give ’em new instructions, we do that too.” Talk about teamwork.
Thankfully, no one got hurt during this whole ordeal. The stormy weather was causing trouble at airports all over the Canary Islands that day. Talk about bad luck. Apparently, strong tailwinds and messed-up runway conditions were causing lots of planes to miss their mark. Not a fun day for flying, that’s for sure.
And get this, Spain was dealing with some crazy weather at the start of May. A huge storm front was bringing rain, hail, and cooler temps all across the country. Piedrabuena in central Spain was basically a winter wonderland with all the hail. AEMET even had to issue orange alerts for storms, strong winds, and hail in other parts of the country. Mother Nature was definitely not holding back.
Back in April, the Canary Islands were on high alert because of “hurricane-force” winds. Tenerife and La Palma were hit hard. These islands are usually all about that sunny weather, but not this time. The streets were covered in hail, making it look like a whole different world. Just goes to show that you never know what weather will throw your way.
So, all in all, it was a wild ride for that Ryanair plane and for Spain in general. Weather can be a real game-changer, that’s for sure. Stay safe out there, folks. And hey, keep an eye on the sky—you never know when things might take a turn.
