Treyarch has recently made a significant change to Black Ops 6 Zombies by removing the pay-to-win requirement for GobbleGum purchases. This decision came after listening to community feedback regarding the controversial nature of purchasing these single-use items from the machine.
In Black Ops 3, GobbleGums were introduced as special abilities that could provide players with an edge in the game. However, players found the process expensive and frustrating, as it required them to spend in-game currency repeatedly until they obtained the ability they desired.
Although the in-game currency could be earned without spending real money in BO3, it paved the way for micro-transactions in BO6. Despite the return of this feature, Treyarch has assured players that they will not have to spend Essence to acquire GobbleGums.
So, how exactly do GobbleGums work in Black Ops 6? In order to obtain GobbleGums, players must interact with the Mr. Peeks machine, which will be located in a random spot on the map each match. Upon interaction, a GobbleGum is randomly dispensed, and the machine will either cool down on a timer or reset immediately in the next round.
Players can hold up to three GobbleGums at once and are free to use as many as they desire in a match. Any unused GobbleGums will be retained between matches, ensuring that players do not lose them if they disconnect. These unused items are stored in a pack that can hold up to five items.
While GobbleGums cannot be dropped or shared with other players, you are able to switch to a different pack at any time during a match using the in-game menu. It is important to note that changing packs will reset the randomized order of the new pack.
There are five different rarities of GobbleGums in Black Ops 6: Rare, Epic, Legendary, Ultra, and Whimsical. Abilities become more potent as the rarity increases. For instance, the Wonderbar is classified as an Ultra rarity and enhances the next Mystery Box weapon into a Wonder Weapon.
Although Treyarch has not disclosed all the GobbleGums that will be available at launch, players can refer to the guide on the new save and quit feature for more information about Zombies. This change marks a positive step towards enhancing player experience and eliminating the pay-to-win aspect of the game.
